Devices4U2020

In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I founded my first nonprofit, Devices4U2020, to provide underserved students with refurbished electronic devices for online learning. Creating an extensive repertoire of approaches, I partnered with local libraries and initiated conversations with Senator Ann Gillespie about legislative changes to enable corporate used device donations. To date, Devices4U2020 has benefited 1200 students in Chicago, Canada, Nigeria, and Kenya, and has most recently expanded operations to Bursa, Turkey.

Project Lit

Project Lit is a national grassroots LITeracy movement. As chapter leader of local community I created safe and inclusive spaces for spirited conversations around diverse literature to bring communities together and promote cultural awareness. I also took the initiative to talk to different YA authors and present the different perspectives from these conversations in addition to bringing together Project LIT with Sikh Coalition, a national advocacy organization, to provide guidance and promote awareness about the diverse Sikh Literature.

Science Scholars

During the pandemic, I started another nonprofit Science Scholars, aiming to provide engaging, inquiry-based lessons, while building critical thinking and collaborative skills. I designed my own-inquiry based curriculum, distilling concepts and experiments for my 8 to 12-year-old students. As I transformed my kitchen and driveway into mini laboratories, my work with these young scientists has become my own hands-on experiment in the joys and challenging of teaching!

My goal is to foster their creativity, nurture their love for science, and empower them to think independently.
